Peroneus quartus – what is this little muscle and tendon?

The peroneus quartus is an accessory muscle found within the conjoined tendon sheath of the peroneus brevis and peroneus longus tendon sheath on the lateral aspect of the ankle.  What’s the function of the peroneus quartus?  What are its’ implications in peroneal tendon surgery?  Join the discussion for more information.

Cuneiform stress fractures

Stress fractures of the mid-foot rarely follow a typical healing pattern.  In many cases, non-displaced stress fractures of the cuneiform or navicular heal slowing.  This is particularly frustrating to athletes who want to return to play.  The fracture may feel good with normal pedestrian activities, but once put under the stress of the sport, the symptoms flair.
